Thirty-two things that change when you have a baby

1. You finally stop to smell the roses, because your baby is in your arms.

2. Where you once believed you were fearless, you now find yourself afraid.

3. The sacrifices you thought you made to have a child no longer seem like sacrifices.

4. You respect your body ... finally.

5. You respect your parents and love them in a new way.

6. You find that your baby's pain feels much worse than your own.

7. You believe once again in the things you believed in as a child.

8. You lose touch with the people in your life whom you should have banished years ago.

9. Your heart breaks much more easily.

10. You think of someone else 234,836,178,976 times a day.

11. Every day is a surprise.

12. Bodily functions are no longer repulsive. In fact, they please you. (Hooray for poop!)

13. You look at your baby in the mirror instead of yourself.

14. You become a morning person.

15. Your love becomes limitless, a superhuman power.

16. "You discover how much there is to say about one tooth."

17. "You finally realize that true joy doesn't come from material wealth."

18. "You now know where the sun comes from."

19. "You'd rather buy a plastic tricycle than those shoes that you've been dying to have."

20. "You realize that although sticky, lollipops have magical powers."

21. "You don't mind going to bed at 9 p.m. on Friday night."

22. "Silence? What's that?"

23. "You realize that the 15 pounds you can't seem to get rid of are totally worth having."

24. "You discover an inner strength you never thought you had."

25. "You no longer rely on a clock — your baby now sets your schedule."

26. "You give parents with a screaming child an 'I-know-the-feeling' look instead of a 'Can't-they-shut-him-up?' one."

27. "Your dog — who used to be your 'baby' — becomes just a dog."

28. "You take the time for one more hug and kiss even if it means you'll be late."

29. "You learn that taking a shower is a luxury."

30. "You realize that you can love a complete stranger."

31. You find yourself wanting to make this world a better place.

32. If you didn’t believe in love at first sight before, now you do!

Indi - Yeah!!

Guess what? An Israeli reality TV show is looking for its contestants in India...What kind of a reality show is this? Its about singing..on similar lines as Indian idol and whoever sings best wins the competition! Why India as the venue for an Israeli TV show? Coz India is a hot favorite with Israeli youth and lots of them are packing their bags and heading here to know more about our country and culture. This reality TV show aims at showcasing this fact on the Israeli television. Israelis in various parts of the country are busy auditioning these days and they find it awesome, the people here, the beautiful places, the colors, the exotic food, the rickshaws, and pretty much everything around. They got Israelis around the country together through social networking and now the production team is here with the judges happily shooting!!

Heat wave in Pune!!

I'm here in Pune after a gap of two summers. The previous two summers ('06 and '07 - post marriage) in Bangalore were not all that hot as far as I can recollect.
Its mid April and the mercury has soared to 42.1 degrees yesterday (24th April, 2008).
This has been the second highest maximum temperature for the month of April since 1897!!

Temperatures have been persistently increasing for the past 1 week.
The weather bureau claims that its coz of the heat waves coming in from the northern part of the state! Is global warming not merely a myth perpetrated by Cassandras of the paranoid west? Are we heading towards Doomsday? I guess I'm getting overly pessimistic and rhetorical here.
For now, I'm just looking forward to the first monsoon showers in early May

TM Krishna @ Gayana Samaja

On 19th Jan attended a concert of TMK at Gayana Samaja, Bangalore as part of the 3rd edition of Aanandaa Cultural festival. Aanandaa is a non-profit foundation that helps promote Indian Classical Performing Arts globally. The theme for the day was "Compositions of Muthuswamy Deekshitar". TMK was accompanied by HK Venkatram on the violin, Shri Trichy Shankaran on the mrudangam and Shri B S Purushottaman on the Khanjira.

The concert commenced with a brief presentation on 'Muthusawmy Deekshitar' by a sprightly and enthusiastic young lady called Priyanka Prakash. It included information regarding his ancestors, his contribution to Carnatic classical music, various features of his compositions, differences between the ragams he has composed on, etc.

TMK began his performance at 18.30 sharp, as planned. During his first song, his throat seemed to be in some discomfort as he was frequently clearing it. It seemed to us as though it was one of his off days. But much to our (and probably his as well) relief, our apprehension was short lived. From the very next rendition, he hit top form. In the main piece "Shree Subramanyaya Namaste" in Kamboji, he struck a purple patch. He took the audience from unfathomable depths to dizzy heights with his expansive exploration of this majestic ragam. HK Venkatram beautifully matched him phrase for phrase. Trichy Sankaran and Purushottaman played a mesmeresing and resounding thani avartanam that had the packed audience asking for more, so much so that TMK had to wait for the claps to die down before he could resume with the closing phrase.

His performance included the following:-

01.) dakSiNAmUrttE vidaLita dAsArttE - shankarAbharaNaM/mishra jhampa
02.) paHncabhUta kiraNAvaLiM candra mauLiM - kiraNAvaLi/khaNDa EkaM
03.) kamalAmbAM bhajarE rE mAnasa - kalyANi/Adi (2 kaLai)
04.) vINApustaka dhAriNIMAshrayE - vEgavAhini/mishra jhampa
05.) vAtApi gaNapatiM bhajEhaM - hamsadhvani/Adi
06.) vINAbhEri vENuvAdyAdi - AbhEri/Adi
07.) rAmacandrabhaktaM bhaja mAnasa - gEya hEjjajji/Adi
08.) shrI subrahmaNyAya namastE namastE - *kAmbhOji/tishra EkaM

All in all, a fantastic concert that I shall cherish for a long time
